Daniil Romazanov holds the position of CTO at PARSIQ, a blockchain data technology company. With over a decade of experience in building complex IT systems for various enterprises and startups, Romazanov has been involved in managing, leading, and participating in development and architectural decisions. He initially joined PARSIQ as a Product Owner and later transitioned to the role of CTO.
Romazanov’s career path leading to his current role as CTO of PARSIQ has been a long and continuous journey. After graduating from high school, he joined a software development company as a Junior Developer. Since then, he has worked on numerous projects in various capacities, primarily focusing on development but also taking on team management and leadership roles. He has worked on projects spanning different industries, including consumer electronics, airline support, sales systems, SEO systems, gaming, and education, among others. Before joining PARSIQ, Romazanov felt content with his work and had no plans of changing jobs for at least a couple of years.
When asked about his inspiration for getting involved in blockchain technology, Romazanov humorously quoted a line from the TV show Scrubs, stating that he joined the blockchain industry for the same reasons as everyone else: “chicks, money, power, and chicks.” On a serious note, he mentioned two factors that influenced his decision. First, he was invited to join PARSIQ by Alan D, who was his former colleague at a previous employer. Second, Romazanov had a strong desire to learn new things and explore new concepts and paradigms. Blockchain technology had eluded him for a long time, and he saw it as an opportunity to dive into this field.
Romazanov believes that blockchain technology has transformative potential in both public and private infrastructure. In the public infrastructure, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, blockchain offers digital and financial freedom by eliminating the need for intermediaries like banks and governments. This empowers individuals in unfair situations to be treated equally. In the private and semi-private infrastructure, blockchain can bring transparency and efficiency to various industries, including medicine, supply chains, governments, logistics, and education, through the concept of immutability.
When asked about how his vision for blockchain aligns with the mission of Reactive Network, Romazanov emphasized the importance of addressing the challenges and limitations in blockchain technology. He mentioned the Blockchain Trilemma, which represents the tradeoff between scalability, security, and decentralization. Reactive Network focuses on improving the development experience for blockchain developers, which indirectly affects the user experience as well. By making decentralized applications (dApps) more intelligent and efficient, Reactive Network aims to bridge the gap between different blockchains and allow dApps to have a broader understanding of their ecosystem.
In terms of the future of blockchain technology, Romazanov sees two possibilities. Either the bright future that people envision for blockchain will become a reality, or blockchain will be overshadowed by countless meme coins and eventually fade away. He acknowledges that there are several technical challenges that need to be addressed, such as scalability, data accessibility, irrelevant ecosystems, environmental concerns, and liquidity separation. If these challenges are not overcome within the next decade, Romazanov believes that it could be game over for blockchain.
Romazanov sees Zero Knowledge Proofs as an influential emerging technology in the public infrastructure of blockchain. By reducing the need for every participant to reprocess every transaction, Zero Knowledge Proofs can contribute to a more sustainable future for blockchain. He considers most other trends in Web3 as noise unless they directly or indirectly improve the user or developer experience.
When it comes to cultivating a positive and productive culture within his team, Romazanov emphasizes the importance of listening. Despite not having a hardcore computer science background himself, he values the expertise of his team members and strives to give them the freedom to express their thoughts and ideas. By avoiding unnecessary intrusion and providing a sense of ownership, Romazanov believes that the team can grow together and create a stronger product.
As a CTO, Romazanov finds his job rewarding due to the opportunities for constant learning, staying at the forefront of the market, presenting on stage, teaching others, and personal and professional growth. While the position comes with significant responsibilities, the rewards make it worthwhile.
For upcoming tech leaders aspiring to innovate in the blockchain space, Romazanov advises them to listen more. He believes that success in this field relies on understanding and utilizing the skills and strengths of team members in a way that brings value to both the individuals and the company.
